Happy Chattanooga TN BYB 1200 User
"I ordered my BYB 1200 on Sunday August 30th and got it on Tuesday September 1st 48 hours later via freight and it was pallet jacked right into the garage. Putting it together was straight forward and I did the initial burn in and cooked some wings that Friday. Saturday was the opening weekend of football and do ribs for the first time ever and they turned out great. For Labor Day I do ribs and had entered the competition and came in 2nd and it was only my 2nd time cooking ribs. Also I’ve done a whole chicken which turned out great. So far there was no issues with the unit and the app was easy to connect and use. It’s really nice being able to leave it and go do some errands and keep an eye on the cook. The build quality and workmanship is outstanding, and I was considering a WeberSearwood."

No Regrets
"Left my GMG Peak Prime for the Backyard Beast 1200. After much research I landed on the BYB 1200. Pros: It’s built solid, the stainless steel body is a high point and coupled with the fact that the PID control Is one of the best on the market it was a no brainer. Have cooked on it twice now and it has not disappointed me. I find the BYB to operate a bit more quietly as well. Cons: The app could use work. Powering the grill up in the app is a feature that my GMG had that made smoking meat a bit more convenient. There were also simplistic outside temperature settings (Cold, Normal, and Hot) that adjusted the way the smoker responded due to external temperatures. Overall I am VERY satisfied with my purchase!"

Grill Doesn't Work
"Bought the grill back in May 2026 and in July 2026 the grill stopped working. Customer service has not been able to provide a solution which ends with the grill working. The grill is now more taken apart than it was when I bought it. Very disappointed for a $1200 grill. No refund or anything."

I feel like a pro
"WOW is all you need to know. I used to have one of those smaller smokers smokers that looks like a college refrigerator. I could only smoke small foods. Now I have smoked ribs and a 12lbs brisket to perfection thanks to the technology in my recteq. It kept the heat right where I needed it and when I had questions or tips the recteq app had all my answers. No more running to YouTube. Thank you Recteq for an awesome product."

"I love my new BYB1200 but one thing that I wish would get updated was the ability to toggle from minutes to hours in the “My Cooks” section of the app. Having to input 1080 minutes instead of 18 hours just seems outdated."

The beast lives up to the name.
"Coming from a Pitboss, this thing is almost perfect. Let's get my personal nit picks out of the way. So first thing can go up to 700° , more than good for searing. However, it does take alot of time and pellets to do so. Not ideal for me but that isn't a huge issue. I'm used to having an open flame access like the pitboss but again it's a pellet grill and I can live with that. 2nd , you may need an iPhone to link your grill, i have samsung and had to use my work phone to connect it. Rectaq has since updated the app since then so it may work now. Now with the cons out the way, here are the pros. First item, thing is built like a tank. Stainless steel everywhere. Soild as a rock. 2nd item 30lb hopper so plenty of cook-time. 3rd item ; when you are connected to the app, easy to use and very simple. 4th item , 1200sq ft for the price , quailty and build is awesome. Some would say better the sear wood. If you are looking for a beaat of smoker and good grill with plenty of space for a crowd with a 6 YEAR WARRENTY, this is one to highly consider!"
